Detritus 2013 - 2015
I fell into this project when I was handed my first digital camera, and was charged with documenting work I was seeing at the Venice Biennale. In addition to straight documentation, I began to see ways of spending more time on the site, often finding more interest in the peripheral aspects of the exhibition and its installation. I realized that material analogies to finished artistic production could be found anywhere: in the studio, the domestic realm, the street, or even nature.
The images are printed as diptychs or triptychs on single sheets of roll paper. The juxtapositions at first glance seem built around formal elements such as color and composition, setting up a dynamic of comparison. A further look will trigger narratives about the specific social contexts the images occur in, underlining relations between different levels of human activity and aspiration. All of works pay homage to the tradition of the still life, focusing on material elements that otherwise might have been overlooked.
